The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) was privileged to participate in #UCUGuildAssembly23, organized by the UCU 25th Guild Government at Nkoyoyo Hall, Uganda Christian University. The event centered around the theme “Servant Leadership.” During the general assembly, each leader delivered a speech outlining the performance of their respective ministry or department.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Nansozi Kasalina, Executive Director of The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC), urged the guild leaders to embody the leadership ideals of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania. These ideals were grounded in his vision of establishing a just and equitable society, guided by African values and traditions. Dr. Nansozi emphasized, “The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) is committed to continuing the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere to advance the African liberation agenda, particularly by empowering its youth.” She added that the JNLC serves as a vital initiative for Makerere and society at large, grooming and equipping young leaders with the moral foundation for leadership and a commitment to serving others.
Dr. Nansozi expressed gratitude to the over 10 UCU guild leaders who participated in The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) Guild Leaders Training. This training was organized in collaboration with UNDP Uganda and Makerere University, conducted from July 24th to August 4th, 2023, at Protea Hotel, Kampala. The training focused on the theme “Positioning Youth Leaders to Drive Sustainable Development Goals and Uganda’s Development Agenda.”
Accompanying Dr. Nansozi K. Muwanga were JNLC Facilitators Mr. Emolot Allan David, Mr. Ivan Sebastian Segawa, and Dr. Rwakiseta Herbert. They encouraged the leaders never to assume a leadership role that lacks definition, cautioning that doing so may result in being directed by those they claim to lead or becoming a law unto themselves, with no accountability to anyone.
