The 8th sitting of the 5th meeting of the National Youth Parliament of Uganda took place on Friday 5th, August 2022 at the Parliament of Uganda.
The session aimed to increase youth participation in policy making, contributing to a youth-focused and inclusive budget that caters for youth priority areas and increases youth civic engagement.
During the sitting, Mr. Owili Geofrey presided over the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the Year’s National Youth Parliament. The Nominees were Timothy Ochieng with 02 votes, Speria Nakigudde with 41 votes, Welunga Yusuf with 40 votes, Ochan Emmanuel with 20 and Tuyambaze Moses with 05 votes. Hon Maria Nakigudde was declared the Speaker of the #YouthParliamentUG with 41 votes and took oath as the newly elected Speaker of the #YouthParliamentUG
The House was suspended for 10 minutes in preparation for the newly elected Speaker Hon Maria Nakigude to chair and preside over the nomination and election of the Deputy Speaker of the National Youth Parliament. Hon. Shaa Rubangakene was was latter declared the newly elected Deputy Speaker of the 5th National Youth Parliament.
