JNLC Bulletin of Activities 2024

The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) continued to advance its mission of nurturing transformative leadership, promoting Pan-African ideals, and fostering intergenerational dialogue throughout 2024. Despite operating under significant financial constraints following an 80% budget reduction, the Centre sustained a vibrant programme of activities, partnerships, and leadership engagements that reached young leaders, policymakers, scholars, and institutions across Uganda and beyond.

The 2024 Bulletin of Activities captures a year marked by leadership training, peace and security initiatives, cross-generational conversations, international partnerships, and celebrations of the enduring legacy of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. Through collaborations with regional and international institutions, JNLC strengthened its commitment to developing values-based leadership and promoting unity, peace, and social transformation.

Among the notable highlights were youth leadership trainings in Mbale and Gulu, peace and security programmes for university guild leaders and graduating student leaders, the expansion of the Let’s Talk mental health series, the annual celebration of Mwalimu Nyerere’s birthday, and the development of new curricula on Kiswahili, social media, gender, and environmental sustainability. These initiatives reflected the Centre’s vision of preparing young people to become ethical and transformative leaders capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

The bulletin also documents JNLC’s growing international engagements, including participation in the celebration of 50 years of Uganda-Cuba diplomatic relations, leadership training for Rotary Peace Fellows, collaboration with the East African Community Young Leaders’ Fellowship Programme, and dialogues involving African and Arab youth leaders. Through these engagements, the Centre continued to champion cooperation, peacebuilding, and Pan-African solidarity.
