The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) held a two-day staff retreat from 10 to 11 September 2026 at Hotel Latitude 0, Kampala, bringing staff together for reflection, professional development and strategic planning.
Day One: Reflection, Growth and Work Planning
The first day focused on reviewing JNLC’s work priorities for the 2026/2027 period. Following the opening and welcome remarks, staff received updates on the Centre’s work plan and reflected on key areas that required continued attention.
The afternoon session focused on personal growth and organisational performance, facilitated by Dr. Bruce Kisitu. The session provided an opportunity for staff to reflect on their individual roles, professional development and contribution to the wider performance of the organisation. The day concluded with a reflection and closing session.
Day Two: Professionalism, Training and the Way Forward
The second day focused on work ethics, professionalism and the development of JNLC’s training programmes. Dr. Rose Kwatampora led a session on work ethics and professionalism, highlighting the importance of responsible and effective conduct in the workplace.
The programme also introduced new training modules covering Regional Integration and Digital, AI and Data Analytics. Dr. Nansozi K. Muwanga led the introduction, followed by discussions and contributions from the facilitators.
Staff subsequently reviewed the existing training modules and discussed the proposed training curriculum and its implementation. The retreat concluded with a focus on the way forward, providing a shared basis for strengthening JNLC’s programmes and improving their delivery.
Overall, the two-day retreat provided JNLC staff with an important opportunity to reflect on their work, strengthen professional practice and align their efforts with the Centre’s priorities for the coming period.
