Background

Makerere University welcomes thousands of new students every year, each carrying dreams, ambitions, and expectations. Through its leadership training and cross-generational conversations, the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC) provides a platform to nurture these young minds into leaders who embody Pan-African values and servant leadership espoused by Mwalimu Julius Nyerere as well as innovative thinking.

This JNLC Freshers’ Day is designed to orient, inspire, and equip first-year students with practical life skills, leadership values, and a network of peers and mentors from day one.

Objectives

1. Welcome freshers into the JNLC community and introduce them to JNLC’s mission, programmes, and youth opportunities.
2. Provide practical campus survival skills – about money, mental health and wellbeing, digital tools for academic progress and resilience for first-year life.
3. Foster curiosity about Nwalimu Julius Nyerere, Pan-Africanism and servant leadership and explore leadership, innovation, and service early in their campus journey.
